Art by David

When I was at school the careers adviser asked me what subjects I wanted to take for A level. I told him Art, Geography and Zoology. He said “What are you going to do with those! Draw animals in Africa? Yes, perfect I replied but of course I wasn’t allowed to mix science, humanities and arts so opted for science instead.

In 2019 I sold my business and retired, suddenly I had time to paint so I set myself a challenge to post some artwork on my website every day for a year. I managed it for over two years and still post a couple of times a week..

I joined Broadstone Art Society and then Poole and East Dorset Art Society. I organise a weekly portrait model for BAS and after serving on the committee of PEDAS I am now chairman.

In 2025 I was appointed Artist In Residence to the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset. This is a voluntary role which involves accompanying him to events and recording them with sketches and watercolour. It’s a very rewarding role where I get to meet lots of interesting people and consume lots of tea and cake!
